Delonte Morton’s coaches always taught him to look past the defense and toward the end zone when he carries the ball. So as he took at handoff nine yards out early in DeMatha’s game against Loyola, Morton eyed a touchdown.
Only there was a single defender in his way—a 5-foot-11, 185-pound linebacker. Morton, carrying 249 pounds on his 6-foot-1 frame, couldn’t help himself.
Maryland’s football staff has had excellent success in developing and utilizing tight ends in recent years, making the program attractive place for recruits at the position. The Terps’ next standout tight end could be Point Pleasant Boro (N.J.) senior Ryan Malleck, who committed to Maryland this weekend.
Malleck, rated the No. 39 tight end in the nation by ESPN.com, committee dto Maryland over offers from Rutgers and UConn.
For the second time in three days, Maryland has picked up a football commitment.. InsideMDSports.com first reported today that defensive end Dontez Tyler of Hertford County High in Ahoskie, N.C., committed to the Terps, becoming the 13th verbal commitment in Maryland Class of 2011.
Before Undray Clark visited Maryland last week, he became familiar with the football program and the school’s campus. He liked what he heard in talking with his recruiter, defensive coordinator Don Brown, and he liked what he saw in pictures of the school. But he wanted a firsthand look before making a decision.
Turned out his visit matched his expectations, and the 5-foot-10, 168-pound safety from Miami’s Felix Varela High committed while on campus. He said the staff accepted his pledge today.
