ndcommitInsideMdSports tipped you off first earlier today, and now it's official.  Maryland grabbed its seventh commit of the 2010 class today when this visitor pledged to the Terps.  Click below for the exclusive story.

The rain soaked Maryland’s one-day camp on Saturday but it didn’t dampen Nermin Delic’s enthusiasm for the school.  The 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end/defensive end from Tunnel Hill (Ga.) Northwest Whitfield committed to the Terps late this afternoon.

Delic and his dad made their first visit to Maryland this weekend.  Delic participated in drills, toured the campus and met with coach Ralph Friedgen in his office, which sealed the deal.

“He sat down and had a long talk with me and my dad and [tight end] coach [Charles] Bankins.  That’s what really sold me,” Delic said.  “He sat down and told me he was going to make me a better man and he’d prepare me for life after football.  Coach Friedgen and coach Bankins were a huge part in my decision.”

Friedgen “asked me what I wanted to study.  We were just talking about life after college, not just depending on the NFL.  What do I want to do, what kind of man he is, what he expects out of his players.  He’s a man of integrity.  He likes his players to be disciplined and the expectation level is high for his players and that’s what I like… It was a real heart-to-heart conversation.  It meant a lot to me and my dad.”

Delic’s relationship with Bankins through the recruiting process was also pivotal in his decision.  They talked about off-the-field matters and life in general and frequently asked about each other’s family.  They even kept in constant communication as Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA championship, calling each other after every game.

“He’s a good family guy.  He’s always asking about my family,” he said.  “We’re real close friends outside of football.”

Delic was also drawn to the campus and the area.  After the camp ended, he and his dad toured the academic buildings and the Comcast Center, where he met Greivis Vasquez.

“He was just telling me it was an awesome place, it was where I need to come,” Delic said.

The coaches told Delic that he would likely start out at tight end but could also play defensive end.  Last season at Northwest Whitfield, Delic had four catches for 100 yards at tight end and 70 tackles (13 for a loss), 6 sacks and 3 pass deflections at defensive end.

Delic picked Maryland over offers from East Carolina, Tulsa, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, South Alabama, Western Carolina and Marshall.  He said Georgia, Clemson and Oklahoma State were close to offering, but that doesn’t matter now.

“I realized I’m ready to commit to Maryland.  It’s the place I want to be because they already offered me.  This is my place,” he said.  “I’m strongly, solidly committed... I’m a Maryland Terrapin.”
